African Rivers

African Rivers is a vibrant, inclusive and gender focused international not-for-profit conservation organization legally registered under the Zambian laws pursuant to the Non-Governmental Organizations’ Act, No. 16 of 2009. The guiding philosophy for African Rivers is "Water, Life and Peace" knowing that we all cannot survive on the planet earth without rivers. A river is a symbol of freedom and an opportunity tool.

As African Rivers, we believe once the rivers are sufficiently protected they will remain healthy and safe to provide clean water, valuable to human sanitation and support wildlife habitation and ultimately remain safe for use in various economic activities on the African continent. African Rivers intends to work very closely with the Government of the Republic of Zambia (GRZ) through the Line Ministries and Agencies especially the Ministry of Water Development and Sanitation (MWDS) and Ministry of Green Economy and Environment (MGEE), Zambezi River Authority (ZRA), Zambezi Watercourse Commission (ZAMCOM) and Cooperating Partners (CPs) including other institutions responsible for management of water resources, wildlife and protection of rivers, lakes, streams and tributaries in Zambia and across the continent of Africa.

Additionally, we intend to build and enhance collaboration with the United Nations (UN) Family and other similar international organizations across the globe in our works so as to effectively contribute to Zambia’s efforts in attaining the Vision 2030 and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
